“Sticky” Communities
April 16th, 2006
Online Communities are held together by a unified need. Support for soft or firmware, access to a knowledge base, and personal and business networks. It’s a sure bet that if your printer goes down either you or your tech will be online in a heartbeat downloading the latest patch or drivers. We go to a bulletin board, first because of a perceived need whether occasional or continual. But it starts there. Without this there is no glue (sticky).
So if you’re going to facilitate an online community it must have glue. If you don’t begin with that you’ll be done before you start. So start with a sticky concept for your Community.
Here’s a good clue to glue - it’s a value proposition. Create real value for your Community members each time they visit the Community and you’ll really have something.
